OUR PHILOSOPHY

The Laba Laba community

Laba Laba means “butterfly” in Yoruba, a delicate creature that quietly plays an essential role in our ecosystems. Where butterflies are found, nature is usually thriving too, with clean air, healthy land, and rich biodiversity.

For us, the butterfly felt like the perfect symbol. It reflects our mission and our purpose: to help you discover extraordinary pockets of unspoilt nature. We aim to make luxury feel effortless and welcoming, while staying grounded in the joy of simple pleasures. Today, our wings are in East Africa. Tomorrow, they may take us even further.

We also hold deep respect for the pioneers who shaped the African safari experience. The visionaries who created national parks and game reserves in the late 19th century built sanctuaries that have protected countless species from disappearing. Thanks to their foresight, we can share these unforgettable landscapes with you today.

Our concept: The Slow Safari

At Laba Laba, we cherish the nature reserves that make Africa so extraordinary. We hold deep respect for the landscapes, the wildlife and the energy of the land, which connects us to something timeless. This understanding and admiration allow us to create a truly personalised and exceptional safari experience for every guest.

The African safari has evolved in recent years, especially since the end of the global pandemic, as many people feel a renewed desire to return to authenticity. Well-known national parks such as the Masai Mara in Kenya and the Serengeti in Tanzania have welcomed a significant increase in visitors from around the world. We see this as a positive development for the African nations that have invested so much in protecting their wildlife.

Our Slow Safari experience is inspired by the explorers of the past who sought to understand the heart of the wilderness. It offers a unique approach to discovering nature in its purest form.

Slow Safari is both a philosophy and a set of values built around the following principles:

  1. An authentic experience that honours the natural environment. You will not find mass tourism here.

  2. Peace, quiet and privacy. In certain camps, including Laba Laba Jongomero, you are surrounded by the tranquillity of nature, free from outside interruptions.

  3. A front-row seat to wildlife. From your tent, you can watch animals roaming freely, with your safety ensured by the Maasaï, whose deep knowledge of wildlife behaviour is unparalleled.

  4. Expert guides. They are passionate, dedicated and always ready to go the extra mile to bring your dream safari to life.

  5. True freedom. Your safari can unfold exactly as you wish.
