OUR PHILOSOPHY The Laba Laba community

Laba Laba means butterfly in Yoruba. And the butterfly plays an important role in nature by helping to increase biodiversity. When you see one, it generally means the area is healthy, with little to no pollution present.

This beautiful winged insect felt like the appropriate symbol to illustrate both our mission and purpose. We want to share spectacular locations of unspoilt nature with you. We make luxury feel effortless, yet accessible, whilst placing a strong accent on enjoying the simple pleasures. Today, East Africa, tomorrow, further afield.

It is important to acknowledge the pioneers of history who made it possible for us to share the unforgettable experience of an African safari. We thank the individuals who had the foresight to create national parks and game reserves at the end of the 19th century. Without them, many native species of fauna and flora would have disappeared, in part due to poaching.

Our concept: The Slow Safari

At Laba Laba, we love these nature reserves. We respect the African landscape and fauna. We are inspired by the energy of the land, which takes us back to our origins. Our deep understanding and admiration allows us to offer a tailor-made superior safari experience!,

The African safari experience has evolved significantly in recent years, even more since the end of the global pandemic, driven by a human desire to return to authenticity.

The most well-known national parks, such as the Masai Mara in Kenya and the Serengeti in Tanzania, have seen an enormous surge in foreign visitors. We see this development as a positive for the African countries that have invested in protecting their wildlife.

Our Slow Safari experience is unique and inspired by past explorers - who strive to get to the core of the safari experience to showcase you the best of nature.

Slow Safari is a philosophy and a set of values that represents the following:

1. An authentic experience that respects the natural surroundings. No mass tourism to be found here!

2. Peace, quiet and privacy. In certain camps, such as Laba Laba Jongomero, you are surrounded by the tranquillity of nature, with no interruptions from the outside world.

3. You can enjoy the sight of wild animals roaming free from your tent, whilst your safety is guaranteed by the Maasaï people, who are familiar with wildlife behaviour.

4. Knowledgeable guides, who will go above and beyond to deliver the safari experience you’ve always dreamt of.

5. Limitless possibilities! When it comes to your safari experience, you have total freedom.

● It can be done on foot, by 4x4 vehicle or even by hot air balloon (not available for our camps)

● Explore during the day or at night

● A personal guide and private vehicle can be reserved

● Start with an introductory walk to get familiar with the surroundings

● A fly camping safari option, for those who want to explore further. A guide, a Maasaï member and an armed ranger will accompany you.

Take advantage of the opportunity to indulge in some rest and relaxation.

● Savor the proximity to nature during breakfast, lunch, pre-dinner drinks and dinners, where you will be fully immersed in the wild.

● We favor organic ingredients, to care for your health and offer the best of nature.

● We are not aligned with industrial and chemical agriculture, which contribute to land destruction and have a negative impact on biodiversity.

● Indulgent spa treatments, inspired by nature, featuring water from local volcanic springs and views of the turquoise ocean at Fanjove.

● A fully equipped gym - with a view of nature - to maintain your health and fitness.

● An on-site team, devoted to taking care of your satisfaction and comfort.

HEALTHY, DELICIOUS FOOD: A LABA LABA SIGNATURE

“I aim to eat well with a diet that is rich in healthy and organic food. It is unthinkable to serve guests food that I would not want to consume myself. Furthermore, our unique selling point is an untainted natural setting. So, it is out of the question that we contribute to destructive farming methods, which have devastating consequences for the land and natural environment." Xavier Marie, owner of Laba Laba .

The hospitality industry can sometimes sacrifice the quality and composition of ingredients, preferring to focus on presentation and taste. Laba Laba however, is guided by nature and good health. The wholesome meals you enjoy during your safari adventure will be free of artificial ingredients. We want to provide an unforgettable safari experience, but we also feel accountable for your health.

To guarantee the highest quality of produce in the kitchen, we work closely with local farmers who can provide full traceability. Today, we are proud to say that the food we provide during your stay features 80% of organic ingredients. We are working towards 100% as soon as possible.

To accompany your meals, we currently offer a small selection of organic wines. By 2026, we aim to offer a wider range of organic wines from France and South Africa.
